Belle Epoque's First Tuesday Champagne Club

The five star champagne lineup continues at Brisbane’s Belle Epoque with French Bistro’s next First Tuesday Champagne Club, hosted by the renowned Bernadette O’Shea, set to showcase Comte Audoin de Dampierre.

Each month, the First Tuesday Champagne Club at Belle Epoque sees the tasting focus on a different vintage. And for the ultimate indulgence, and quintessential culinary pairing, guests sip and slip their way through freshly shucked seasonal Oysters to accompany the champagne house.

For more than 700 years, the Dampierre family has been associated with the Champagne region in France. As early as 1300, the jurisdiction of Guy de Dampierre, who was Count of Flanders and governor of Champagne, stretched from Bruges to Reims. Today the Dampierre Champagnes have reached cult status amongst the bubbly cognoscenti; the Dampierre name being regularly associated with the world’s most exclusive restaurants, as well as French presidential, ministerial and ambassadorial residences.

“The quality of Count de Dampierre's champagnes is superb, their pure and vibrant taste the result of an expert blend of wines made only from grands crus chardonnay and pinot noir grapes,” said Bernadette. “The Count, one of the most charismatic people in all of Champagne, oversees every aspect of production and is passionate about his craft…. as well as Aston Martin cars, in fact  he usually poses in front of his house with his private collection of sports cars and a glass of champagne in his hand!”

Champagne Dampierre is sold in 29 countries, but it is not mass produced. Count de Dampierre makes only 220,000 bottles a year, which guarantees that every one of them contains only the very finest champagne. His champagne ‘Des Ambassadeurs’ is served at 40 French Embassies throughout the world, as well as the President’s palace in Paris.

On his cuvée de prestige bottle Bernadette said the cork is hand-tied using lightly waxed hemp twine, an ancestral method called ‘ficelage”.

Champanges to be showcased at next First Tuesday Champagne Club, include:
  • Dampierre Brut Ambassadeurs
  • Dampierre Blanc de Blancs Ambassadeurs
  • Dampierre Family Reserve Vintage 2002
  • Dampierre Prestige Grand Cru 1998
“The First Tuesday Champagne Club offers Champagne lovers the chance to taste premium Champagne by the glass when ordinarily it would only be sold by the bottle and against the stunning turn-of-the-century Parisian backdrop that is Belle Époque,” said Bernadette O’Shea.

O’Shea is holder of the prestigious Vin de Champagne Award. For her services to the industry she has been inducted into the L'ordre des Coteaux de Champagne and is a recipient of the very rare un Ruban vert (green ribbon) award.  She has also been invested with the Chevalier de l'ordre du Merite Agricole, a knighthood from the French Government for her work in the Champagne industry, an honour hardly ever bestowed on any woman outside France.

Chalk Board Clock

The BD team found this fabulous clock at Design For Use and it is simply stunning! It's a unique approach to the traditional clock, and one that is even more practical.

As well as its striking graphic appearance – in the form of a black vinyl (stick-on) face and stark white hands – the best thing is that you can personalise the clock face with a simple piece of chalk (…pencil/ pen!).

With a face measuring a generous 50cm (?) you can map out your whole day! Have fun…

Valentine's Day Breakfast - Heart-In-The-Whole Eggs and Toast

Valentine's Day is the day that you spoil your loved one, and breakfast in bed is the perfect way to begin your special day together…

This great recipe is from Kaboose and is a quick and simple meal that will be sure to delight. Simply cuttimg out a shape from a piece of bread turns a breakfast standard into a special treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 slice bread
  • 1 large egg

Cooking Instructions

  1. Using a 3-inch heart-shaped cutter, or sharp knife, cut heart out of the center of the bread.
  2. In a medium non-stick skillet over medium low heat melt butter.  Place the bread, heart stencil and cut-out heart, in the skillet. Cook about 2 minutes, or until bread is toasted on one side.
  3. Flip bread over and add egg to the center of the cut-out heart. Cover skillet. Cook 2-3 minutes, or until white of egg is cooked.
  4. Salt and pepper to taste. Spread heart cut-out with jam, if desired.

Tips & Tricks

If your skillet is too small to fit the stencil and cut-out heart bread pieces so that they lay flat, the cut-out can be toasted in a toaster.

If sunny-side up eggs are not to your liking, then once the egg is set turn over the filled stencil and cook about 1 minute more, or until the yolk is set.

Visit Kaboose for more great recipes.

Dusk Aromatics Fine Fragrance for the Home

More than 200 years ago French scientists invented the world’s most revolutionary and effective fragrance system for the home – a lamp that only works once you’ve blown it out.

Now it’s Australia’s turn to experience the luxury and romance with the Aromatics Fragrance System by Dusk. Aromatics brings the luxury of the old world to modern life by combining fine fragrance from leading European perfumeries with a science dating back centuries, the result is the most amazing home fragrance solution ever seen in Australia.

Instead of a flame, the elegant aromatics lamp creates scent through a unique catalytic process that allows fine fragrance to travel up the wick and through a porous stone before dispersing to fill the room so filling your home with scent that lasts has never been easier.

From gentle floral to refreshing citrus, the aromatics collection has a dozen designer fragrances to suit every style. The selection includes Elegance (bergamont & rose), Illuminating (mandarin and ylang), Amber Night (floral and lemon), Exotic Addiction (gardenia and grapefruit) and Silky Blossom (jasmine and orange flower). There are also five perfume bottles to choose from to add a stylish, decorative touch to any home.

Fragrance lamps first rose to fame in France in the mid 1800's and quickly became an interior lifestyle revolution in Parisian and international homes of taste. They were a favourite among many 20th century style and artistic icons, including Coco Chanel and Jean Cocteau.

Now it's Australia's turn to enter a new era in home fragrance with the Dusk aromatics fragrance system.
